EMMANUEL MADAN

Emmanuel Madan ist Musiker, Komponist und Klangkünstler. Er wohnt in Montréal. Zwei Jahre lang war er Programmdirektor des zweisprachigen Bürgerradios CHUO-FM, wo er auch als Berater für Richtlinien der CRTC (Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission) mitgearbeitet hat. Seit 1998 liegt Madans Hauptfokus auf der künstlerischen Zusammenarbeit mit dem ArchitektenThomas McIntosh, aka [The User]. Aus dieser Zusammenarbeit sind bisher zwei große Projekte entstanden: ”Symphonie für Matrixdrucker” und ”Silophone”. Jedes dieser Projekte ist eine Zusammenstellung verschiedenster Arbeiten beider Künstler, die musikalische Kompositionen, audio-visuelle Performances und Audioinstallationen umfassen. Zusätzlich zu seinen Projekten mit [The User], hat Emmanuel Madan mit Thomas McIntosh und dem finnischen Künstler Mikko Hynninen an ”Ondulation”, einem synaesthetischen Aufbau für Wasser, Ton und Licht zusammengearbeitet. Ein Soloprojekt von ihm ist ”Final Vinyl”, eine Performance für Turntables und ”live signal processing”. Madan hat sein Interesse an dem Medium Radio mit künstlerischen Untersuchungen der Radiotechnologie, -formate und -inhalte immer wieder erneuert. 2002 fing er an FREEDOM HIGHWAY zu kreieren, eine Remix Performance, die auf ”Talk Radiosendungen” basiert ist und beim Reisen durch die Vereinigten Staaten aufgenommen wurde. 2006 startete er eine Reihe Podcasts über die Grenzenlosigkeit der Zeit. 2006/2007 ist Emmanuel Madan Sound Artist in Residence in den Studios von PRIM in Montréal.

EMMANUEL MADAN

Emmanuel Madan is a musician, composer and sound artist based in Montréal. He was programming director of the bilingual community radio station CHUO-FM for two years and also worked as a policy consultant for the CRTC (Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission). Since 1998, Madan’s main focus has been an artist collaboration with architect Thomas McIntosh known by the name [The User]. To date, this collaboration has produced two major projects: Symphony for dot matrix printers and Silophone. Each of these projects is a family of works including musical compositions, audiovisual performances and sound installations. In addition to his projects with [The User], Emmanuel Madan has collaborated with Thomas McIntosh and Finnish artist Mikko Hynninen on Ondulation, a synaesthetic composition for water, sound, and light. His solo projects include Final Vinyl, a performance for turntables and live signal processing. Madan has renewed his interest in the medium of radio through artistic investigations of the medium’s technology, format, and content. In 2002 he began work on FREEDOM HIGHWAY, a remix performance based on talk radio broadcasts recorded while touring the United States. In 2006 he launched A series of podcasts addressing the limitlessness of time. During 2006/2007, Madan is sound artist in residence at the studios of PRIM in Montréal.
